Hi friends! How is 2017 treating you so far? I’m acting like it’s just getting started today. I forgot to mention in my previous post on my thoughts for 2017 that in this house, the new year never starts on January 1. It always starts the second week of January. There are reasons for that, many reasons, but the main ones are:
holiday travel, and
gifts of food.
We usually travel to visit family the day after Christmas through New Year’s Day. This year, we travelled home on January 1. The weather was good and traffic was light. But when one spends 13 hours in a car, one is not going to do much about the Healthy Eating Plan or about Moving More. And the day after spending 13 hours in the car, one is going to be faced with suitcases full of laundry and an empty refrigerator. And if it is raining a cold rain, one will consider pizza and Chinese take-out. And then one will remember the many gifts of food (cookies, chocolate, cookies) one received on Christmas Eve and still has stashed all around the house. Shame not to at least try them.
See? Not the best setup for getting the year off on the right foot. These things take planning. The last week disappeared into thin air and a cloud of sugar, and all I have to mark that it really happened is a flurry of lists I wrote (apparently) on all things that will be 2017. All the things. 2017.
So. Today is the New Year to me. Toss the confetti! Let’s get this started…with the new finish-a-long.
As I mentioned last time, I am only going to plan one project per month this year, so the first quarter Finish-A-Long list will be short and sweet:
- The quilt made from these strips just needs to be quilted. Maybe I’ll do it today?? Perfect procrastination for dragging the Christmas boxes up to the attic, yes?
- This quilt features Olive’s Flower Market fabric and drunkard’s path blocks.
- The fox quilt my son wanted for his birthday last June!
Linking up to the FAL Q1 linky. Thanks to all of this year’s global hosts for your commitment to encouraging more quilty finishes!
